Are you ready for cuteness overload? Bendi card fun

Bendicard - Life in the Forrest

If you’re ready for cuteness overload? Then this card is for you! I’ve used the stamp set ‘Life in the Forrest‘, made with the ‘Bendi card’ technique to give a sense of depth to this forrest scene. It was really fun to make and I can see that I’ll be making a few more Bendi cards in the future. Plus it gave me the opportunity to play with my Blendabilities alcohol markers to colour too.

Bendicard - Life in the Forrest

Tip: Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Paper has different and co-ordinating patterns on either side. Here I’ve used the Flower Pot Designer Series Papers and by just using different sides I can be assured that the patterns and colours co-ordinate. The best bit is it’s easy – all the guess work is taken out of making co-ordination look good. Bendicard - Life in the Forrest I’m still loving my fringe scissors and I find the ‘fussy cutting’ with my Paper Snip scissors (which is when you cut around images by hand) really relaxing. This card took me a while to make but sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered.

***HUGE Big shot special this month***

Here is the scoopla on Stampin’ Up!’s awesome special this month. If you have always wanted a Big Shot die cutting machine then now is the time. If you purchase a Big Shot in the month of August you will receive a Framelit & Stamp set bundle for FREE – Thats up to $100 worth of savings! . (see below for the selection of Framelits & Stamp sets.)
Already have a Big Shot? OR want a Big Shot and some additional bundles? Then you can order one of these super Framelit & Stamp set bundles for 15% off the normal price! Whoop whoop – really cool.

Thanks for popping by.

Happy stamping folks,

This time last year…. Stampin’ Up! Grand Vacation

I’m a super sentimental type and I’ve been very reflective in the last few days about where I was last year at this same time. A year ago today I was with my wonderful friend Angela, who took me with her as a guest on the Stampin’ Up! Grand Vacation to the USA. We took in the Stampin’ Up! US Convention and then had the most fantastic time at the stunning ski resort St Regis Deer Valley. We were SO spoilt by Stampin’ Up!

A highlight was visiting Stampin’ Up!s Home office and then the following day visiting the manufacturing facility in Kanab Utah to see how the Stampin’ Up! products are made. This was a very special treat as only a very few had ever had this experience before.

Before I tell you about the visit to Kanab I must show you where we stayed…. if you ever ever get to Utah, The Saint Regis Deer Valley is like Heaven on Earth. We stayed in the hight of summer but I can only imagine how different and beautiful it would also be in the snow in winter. 5 star living really suits me – its hard to not LOVE!!

Below is the entrance to the Stampin’ Up! manufacturing facility with all the staff welcoming us. It was a super early start to get there… and a chartered plane ride and a long bus trip. I was worried it would be worth it but it was beyond expectations. I think seeing how everything was made was such a special experience and the staff made us feel so welcome. Aren’t all the Stampin’ Up! buildings beautiful?

We arrived at lunch and of course they had the most beautiful bbq laid on for us. So much great food. The staff were amazing, generous, helpful and really excited for us to be there.

I must introduce you to Stamper Girl. I made Stamper Girl and her friend a while ago as a Convention roomy gift – and they both decided to tag along to see Kanab! Here she is at lunch. Seriously even the paper napkins are purdy!

The smell of hot off the press rubber. Wow. What a sight for a stamper to see. carolynbennie, com

These are the templates/moulds that the lay the flat rubber on before they go in the

Stamper Girl is just checking the oven is at the right setting…. . a stickler for detail.

This was such a surprise… this lady is mixing the dies to put into the foam pads. Hand mixing. Not a robot but a real human. carolynbennie.comStamper Girls is a super good listener.

Look at all those wooden blocks about to go into sets. ** squeal** All the stamp sets are packed by hand. Almost half of the residence of Kanab work in some aspect of Stampin’ Up! manufacturing. It’s really a community.

Stamper Girl does like to make friends… here she is with David Baugh (VP, Global Operations at Stampin’ Up!) – they got along great. ;)

Here the girls are saying hello to Pam Morgan (VP, Employee and Demonstrator Development at Stampin’ Up!). Oh card stock… how I love the.

And here it all is… the finished product ready for shipping off to you and me to love and play with.

It was a big day for Stamper Girl – who I might say had a ball!!

To top of such a special day we had the opportunity to visit the Kanab playground Stampin’ Up! has built for the community. Guess what’s under the play equipment? Yep, all of the rubber offcuts!

Such cherished memories and an amazing opportunity. Stampin’ Up! is the most amazing company and so are the friends you make while along the way.

Happy stamping everyone.

Bordering Blooms Video tutorial – Create a background pattern

So you might know I’m a bit of a night owl – my perfect life would be to stay up until 1 or 2am and sleep until 9am every day (blush). Well it’s school holidays at the moment and with Hubby up super early most mornings watching the World Cup and making the kids their breakfast, I’ve been able to stay up late, stamping and creating and then sleeeeeeep in. BLISS!!!  But the it’s all going to end really soon with the end of the World Cup and the holidays finishing up. *sigh* That is going to be a bitter pill to swallow…. if you see me with big bags under my eyes you know exactly why.

So while I’ve had all that creative energy I’ve put together another video tutorial on how to create a patterned background with the new Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer Border Stamps. These stamps are so fantastic and I know you’re going to love them as much as I do.

This card is made with the stamp set called Bordering Blooms. Really lovely crisp and elegant lines. Great for any occasion.

Bordering Blooms- Creating a Background

Stamping Tip: I’ve made the little flag with a tooth pick – the perfect size for a card and flags are totally on-trend.

I adore Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer stamps. They just tick so many boxes. Photopolymer makes:

  • perfect and accurate positioning so simple – they’re clear and you can see exactly where to put them,
  • adhering to the acrylic blocks are a dream – they’re super sticky
  • cleaning your stamps is easy – clean as you would normally and wash with soapy water if they get really inky. Yes they stay sticky after washing!
  • storage is simple – keep out of direct sunlight
  • stamped images are crisp and perfect

Border stamps are just perfect for making backgrounds. Here I’ve used the Draw the line   border stamp to make this circle background for this framed piece – perfect for home decor.

Curly Flower -

This curly flower is really sweet and a bit different. There is an excellent tutorial here on how to make them:

Here are the products I’ve used in these projects:

Chalk Lines Border Stamp – How to Mitre Corners

Border Stamps - Chalk Lines

Hey, how are you? Todays tutorial is all about how to use Stampin’ Up!’s  new Chalk Lines border stamp in a different kind of way. I’ve mitred a straight border stamp into a corner stamp!!!!  *cheer* I love the result and I really hope you do as well. Give this technique a try for yourself. I’d love to hear of your results.

Here is the same technique used with one of our fab Gift Card Enclosure Packs. Now these little beauties could easily be overlooked in that HUGE new Catalogue of ours, but they are so cute and perfect for a store gift voucher or the like. You’ll NNEEEEEDDDD some like I did. It’s here! The new annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue live today!!

Stampin' Up! annual Catalogue 2014

The new Annual Stampin’ Up! Catalogue is just beautiful.  So many fun new products and beautiful stamps….. I have so many projects rolling around my head I just don’t know if a year is going to be long enough!!!

I love to colour. LOVE IT! So when I found out Stampin’ Up! was releasing a new line of alcohol based markers I was beyond excited. Blendabilities are fun and give super results. You’re going to love them like me I just know it. Have a look at this:

A product line I’m a bit worried about to be honest is Project Life. Why am I worried? Because I fear I might like it even more then card making!!!! GASP!!!!! It ties in a few of my loves – photos of my kids and my family, recording special moments like the art work they do and the certificates the receive and my words or journaling so they have a record of what I thought and felt. A record of their childhood. But MOST importantly it is SOOOOOO QUICK and easy. Combined with the beautiful products, colour co-ordination and creativity of Stampin’ Up!  – I’m SOLD!!!! Bordering Blooms & Chalk Lines – Photopolymer Border Stamps

As promised, here is the first card sample from my recent display of New Border Stamps at South Pacific’s Stampin’ Up! Convention 2014.  I’ve used 3 of the new In-Colors: Hello Honey, Blackberry Bliss and my personal favourite Lost Lagoon.Border Stamps - I just love love the boarder stamps from the new 2014/15 Annual Catalogue – and Bordering Blooms & Chalk Lines are so versitile and purdy. The exciting thing about these stamps is they’re photopolymer!! They are completely clear and super sticky. You’ll love Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer stamps. They are perfect in every way. They stick to the acrylic block like nothing else and being totally clear, you can see exactly where you’re stamping so positioning is easy peasy. I’m a total convert and you’ll see me using them a LOT.

I wanted this card to have an Indian/Bohemian feel and to achieve this I’ve heat embossed with gold embossing powder on the Blackberry Bliss card stock and co-ordinated it with lush and rich colours and lots of sponging. I mounted the card front on a Soft Suede card because if you know me you’ll know I’m a BIG fan of brown. All shades and variations of brown. Perhaps because I was born in the 1970’s? ;)

After piercing with my paper piercer (a favourite tool of mine that is super cheap and always at close reach on my stamping table), I’ve hand sewn with Linen thread finishing off with a bow and a button.

All of these new In-Colors and stamp sets will be available to order from me as of 1st of July (just next week) from my online store or by calling me on 0401857748 or emailing . Please let me know if you have any questions about the products I’ve used here today.

There are only a very few days left of the current Annual Catalogue – order any retiring stamps and accessories NOW here.

Say Goodbye to ‘So Very Grateful’

I’ve loved the stamp set So very Grateful. I’ll be super sad to see it retire at the 30th of this month when Stampin’ Up!’s Occasion Catalogue ends. What’s more the Little Leaves Sizzlits die is also on the retirement list. *gasp* This was one of the very first Big Shot accessories I ever bought and it’s had SO much use.

I found these little milk bottles at our local discount shop and I think they are super cute for a gift. Perhaps a teachers, neighbours or workmates gift? I’ve added the sweet roses using the Spiral Flower Originals Die and some Burlap Ribbon.

My new Stamping Studio – my dream craft room

For the last 4 years I’ve been having Stampin’ Up! Classes here in the Adelaide Hills from my dinning room table in our open plan kitchen family room, while it’s been great it can be a juggle running classes in a busy family space. I’ve also had a little dream…… to have my very own craft room which is big enough to hold my classes in. My very own spot that is welcoming and fun for my classes. It’s taken a lot of plotting, organisation and planning but finally I have it. My Stamping Studio!

My Studio room has had a few names/uses in just the 14 years we’ve owned our 90 year old workman’s cottage. Originally it was our dinning room and then our lounge room (while we renovated and extended), then for the past 6 years it’s been play room for our 3 boys. The play room has been wonderful however being a walk through room the ‘mess’ factor has been a constant issue for the grown ups in the house.

Making the decision to move my craft table out of the spare bedroom (and put the toy room into the spare bedroom) was a great idea. Especially now that my boys are almost all at school. It’s also been an unexpected pleasure to have reclaimed some adult space to our house that has been totally taken over by children for the last decade. Hubby and I own the house right??!! I’d totally forgotten that. Plus I can now close the toy room door and hide away all that toy mess. :)

I hope you enjoy this tour of my new Stamping Studio. Please ask me any questions you like in the comments section. I love to chat.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

This massive beautiful white table is from Ikea and called the Norden. I actually snaffled it second hand from a Gumtree listing last week and I couldn’t believe my luck to get it half the new price and in perfect condition. This is in the 8 person configuration but I can extend it another 46cm to seat another 2 class attendees if required.

Because the table, desk and even the paint in the room is a neutral white and cream colours I NEEDED some Carolyn colour. I took my inspiration from the colours I already love in my home, Cherry Cobbler red, Sage Green, Midnight Muse blue – then I added a new love Daffodil Delight yellow. I’m a bit of a primary colour girl hehehe. So the stools and chairs had to be colourful ones and again Ikea to the rescue.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

After moving the toys out I had the fun of moving all the craft stuff in. My desk is not too changed from it’s configuration previously and I’ll do a post in the future on the storage and organisation of my tools, papers etc. I did have to shed a lot of ‘stuff’ – having had my craft room in the spare bedroom meant I could hoard a lot of junk which I’ve promised myself not to do again.

My Stampin’ Up! Punches are displayed and in handy reach on kitchen rails from Ikea which are fixed to one of our old doors from the house prior to it being renovated. My Dad made this door and although it didn’t fit into the newly renovated family room, I love that I’ve been able to repurpose it in my new favourite room of the house. This is also the same of my desk – one of Dad’s handy work.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

I found the perfect space for this fantastic banner from the last Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration and was able to display some of my favourite moments from my trip to the US last year and our tour of Stampin’ Up! Home Office and Kenab Manufacturing Facility (where Stampin’ Up! make their stamps – Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Heaven)

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

I needed some extra storage space for my business needs, so this 8 cube Ikea Expedits storage unit was perfect. I wanted a pop of colour so the yellow stationary storage boxes really did the trick. I have my photo box on the top so I can take photos of my handmade cards day and night- one of the best purchases I’ve ever made – see my previous post about this light box here. The ‘Love what you live’ is a birthday gift from my 2 dear friends Lynne & Nat long time members of my Stampin’ Up! team the Midnight Inklings. It really resinates with me on so many levels. *love* it.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

The fireplace still works but I’m not sure that I’ll have it going during classes as it would be a bit of work – and I’m usually distracted with my ladies. But it’s a lovely original feature of the room. The mantle also is a great spot to display some of my favourite things. The butterflies are all of the current Stampin’ Up! colour families.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio - After cleaning out years of junk – I mean treasures (lol)I even found this old drawing I did in high school and thought it should get a viewing. The wooden cotton reels are an op-shop find that I’ve been searching for a home for. And look at that – in exactly the colours of my new studio.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

This cupboard is nothing special.. in fact it was a save our neighbour was going to through out. But I loved the dirty green and once I took off the broken sliding doors at the top I found it so useful for display and storage.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

The coat rack is perfect for the ladies handbags and coats. The spinning craft tins from Howards’ Storage World have all the adhesives and scissors for classes at easy reach.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

This photo just explains how I feel about my space. Calm and happy. Of course I think it’s just the calm before the storm with my classes resuming next week (see class details and book) and I’m expecting to see my beautiful and crazy stamping friends ready to have fun and messy up my Studio. If you live in Adelaide or the Adelaide Hills in South Australia contact me today on 0401 857748 or and reserve a seat for you and a friend for my stamping classes. I could have fallen over backwards!! They asked me to present at one of their Convention Demonstrator Booths with new products coming out in our 2014-15 Annual Catalogue to be released 1st of July. Of course I said a big YES!! What an honour.

So for the past few weeks I’ve been super busy getting ready for Convention making display items and thinking of ways to use brand new products never seem before here in Australia. My Demonstrator Booth display and demonstration would all be using the brand new Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer Border Stamps. I’ll be sharing with you my display cards and 3d items over the next few weeks but I wanted to share with you a few photos of this really exciting personal experience, as you my stamping friends will get a real feeling for my excitement.

Here I am in full swing at the Demonstrator Booth. Can you see the big mirror over my head? That’s so everyone watching can see exactly what I’m doing on the table, even if you’re not in the first row. I need one of these at my classes – so cool.

This was a big buzz – seeing my picture in the Convention Program. I know I’m meant to be all cool and nonchalant about it but who am I kidding………………………….. WHOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! :)

So here is a little sneak peak of my display  (I promise really good close up photos really soon – stay tuned).

I even managed a couple of 3d stamped items. Lots of fun to make but tricky to transport on the plane. What a relief to get them safe and sound to Melbourne.

Stampin’ Up! had predicted about 20 people watching the Demonstrator Booths at a time…….. it was a little bit more popular then predicted. I was wearing a microphone so I hope the ladies at the back could hear me ok. What an awesome bunch of ladies, they were all SOOO nice and went along with my silliness.
