Artful Stampers Blog Challenge #2 & Midnight Inklings Scraps Challenge

I’m a bit excited.. I’ve been able to combine two challenges into this one card. I set my team the Midnight Inklings a ‘Scraps Challenge’ on our Team Facebook page AND the Artful Stampers Team Blog Challenge which is a sketch challenge. Love a sketch challenge.

If you’re wondering, a ‘Scraps Challenge’ is where you use something on your desk from a previous project. A left over piece of paper, ribbon, embellishments etc and turn them into something new. It’s fun. Try it. :)

I’ve used the beautiful I love lace Stamp, inked in VersaMark then heat embossed with clear embossing powder and my trusty heat gun. All on the rich colour of Cherry Cobbler.  Here is the sketch we worked from……

Artful Stampers Challenge

The ‘scrap/left over’ I had from my desk for my team challenge ‘scrap card’ was the bird I’d made for this card class: Paper joining special

Now is the time to join my team.

One FREE package of Designer Series Paper, every month for six months, when you sign up to be a demonstrator during the month of October. Redeemable beginning November 2014 and ending April 2015.

Carolyn’s Flexible Border Stamps Video Tutorial – Borderettes Borderettes

If you’re anything like me you’ve looked through the Australian Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue from cover to cover, scanning all of the beautiful flower, birthday, greeting and embellishment stamps. You just might have overlooked this stamp set – the ‘Borderettes‘ and I’m hoping this card and video tutorial I’ve made will encourage you to grab the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue again and flick open to page 34 and discover a really versatile and useful set.

What do you think of the simplicity of my card? I’ve added a number of layers but by keeping them all white, the focus is still all about the stamping.  A card for a male or female, birthday or other celebration. It’s really just a happy card and could easily be reproduced on mass to keep your card stash full and ready for the next celebration.

Have a look at the video tutorial:

Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities Video

Have you noticed that I’ve been doing a few renovations to my blog of late? Well, I hit a bit of a snag last week and reached out to a lovely Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator friend of mine Teneale Williams to pick her brains on fixing this little techno snag. Now I won’t go on about the details of the code writing, blog mumbo jumbo – but the important bit to this story is that Teneale went well beyond the call of duty to help me get out of my pickle.

That’s one of the wonderful things about Stampin’ Up! It’s a company based on helping each other out, sharing what we love to do and encouraging each other. Sure, we could all be cut throat and horrible to each other – but instead Stampin’ Up! is a company that embraces some of the core values that I personaly live and stand by.

I was so very grateful for the help that Teneale gave me that I just had to send her a thank you card! The few minutes out of Teneale’s day might not have been a big deal to her but the help she gave just totally made my day. How many thank you cards do you send? It’s a tradition that we’ve all but lost and I wish we could bring it back. What would receiving a thank you card mean to you? At the very least it would make you smile I bet. Popping this card in the post really made me happy and when I got a very excited message from Teneale once she received it – well, I was even happier.

Here’s a challenge from me to you. Send a thank you card! Has someone helped you out lately? Big or small. Has someone lifted your spirits or a neighbour perhaps just brought in your bins? It’s a card I guarantee will make give you and the recipient smile.

I’ve used a favourite stamp set Blended Blooms to colour with my Blendabilities Alcohol Markers. I’m loving building on my skills with my Blendabilities. This is a hot pink called Melon Mambo and I loved the way it worked with the Crumbcake Cardstock, Burlap ribbon and lace ribbon. To be honest this card is totally me…. down to the sewing and button.

Here is a little technique video from Stampin’ Up! on using your Blendabilites Markers.

Are you ready for cuteness overload? Bendi card fun

Bendicard - Life in the Forrest

If you’re ready for cuteness overload? Then this card is for you! I’ve used the stamp set ‘Life in the Forrest‘, made with the ‘Bendi card’ technique to give a sense of depth to this forrest scene. It was really fun to make and I can see that I’ll be making a few more Bendi cards in the future. Plus it gave me the opportunity to play with my Blendabilities alcohol markers to colour too.

Bendicard - Life in the Forrest

Tip: Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Paper has different and co-ordinating patterns on either side. Here I’ve used the Flower Pot Designer Series Papers and by just using different sides I can be assured that the patterns and colours co-ordinate. The best bit is it’s easy – all the guess work is taken out of making co-ordination look good. Bendicard - Life in the Forrest I’m still loving my fringe scissors and I find the ‘fussy cutting’ with my Paper Snip scissors (which is when you cut around images by hand) really relaxing. This card took me a while to make but sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered.

***HUGE Big shot special this month***

Here is the scoopla on Stampin’ Up!’s awesome special this month. If you have always wanted a Big Shot die cutting machine then now is the time. If you purchase a Big Shot in the month of August you will receive a Framelit & Stamp set bundle for FREE – Thats up to $100 worth of savings! . This time last year…. Stampin’ Up! Grand Vacation

I’m a super sentimental type and I’ve been very reflective in the last few days about where I was last year at this same time. A year ago today I was with my wonderful friend Angela, who took me with her as a guest on the Stampin’ Up! Grand Vacation to the USA. We took in the Stampin’ Up! US Convention and then had the most fantastic time at the stunning ski resort St Regis Deer Valley. We were SO spoilt by Stampin’ Up!

A highlight was visiting Stampin’ Up!s Home office and then the following day visiting the manufacturing facility in Kanab Utah to see how the Stampin’ Up! products are made. This was a very special treat as only a very few had ever had this experience before.

Before I tell you about the visit to Kanab I must show you where we stayed…. if you ever ever get to Utah, The Saint Regis Deer Valley is like Heaven on Earth. We stayed in the hight of summer but I can only imagine how different and beautiful it would also be in the snow in winter. 5 star living really suits me – its hard to not LOVE!!

Below is the entrance to the Stampin’ Up! manufacturing facility with all the staff welcoming us. It was a super early start to get there… and a chartered plane ride and a long bus trip. I was worried it would be worth it but it was beyond expectations. I think seeing how everything was made was such a special experience and the staff made us feel so welcome. Aren’t all the Stampin’ Up! buildings beautiful?

We arrived at lunch and of course they had the most beautiful bbq laid on for us. So much great food. The staff were amazing, generous, helpful and really excited for us to be there.

I must introduce you to Stamper Girl. I made Stamper Girl and her friend a while ago as a Convention roomy gift – and they both decided to tag along to see Kanab! Here she is at lunch. Seriously even the paper napkins are purdy!

The smell of hot off the press rubber. Wow. What a sight for a stamper to see. carolynbennie, com

These are the templates/moulds that the lay the flat rubber on before they go in the

Stamper Girl is just checking the oven is at the right setting…. . a stickler for detail.

This was such a surprise… this lady is mixing the dies to put into the foam pads. Hand mixing. Not a robot but a real human. carolynbennie.comStamper Girls is a super good listener.

Look at all those wooden blocks about to go into sets. ** squeal** All the stamp sets are packed by hand. Almost half of the residence of Kanab work in some aspect of Stampin’ Up! manufacturing. It’s really a community.

Stamper Girl does like to make friends… here she is with David Baugh (VP, Global Operations at Stampin’ Up!) – they got along great. ;)

Here the girls are saying hello to Pam Morgan (VP, Employee and Demonstrator Development at Stampin’ Up!). Oh card stock… how I love the.

And here it all is… the finished product ready for shipping off to you and me to love and play with.

It was a big day for Stamper Girl – who I might say had a ball!!

To top of such a special day we had the opportunity to visit the Kanab playground Stampin’ Up! has built for the community. Guess what’s under the play equipment? Yep, all of the rubber offcuts!

Such cherished memories and an amazing opportunity. Stampin’ Up! is the most amazing company and so are the friends you make while along the way.

Happy stamping everyone.

Need a super cute gift box? …. AND it’s Wednesday Deal day :)

My feet have not stopped running the last few weeks preparing for the Sewing, Stitching and Hand Craft Fair held here in Adelaide (see photos below). Preparing lots and lots of samples of new Stampin’ Up! products – its a hard life hey? Having to play with Stampin’ Up! goodies for a living is the best job ever.

I got to play with Stampin’ Up!’s new Blendabilities and the fab single stamp called Blended Blooms. I’m having so much fun colouring but you my friends know that colouring is my happy place…. and seriously that Hamburger Die is F.U.N.

Blended blooms Hamburger Box - carolynbennie.comI’m still have my ‘learner’ hat on for the Blendabilities but it’s good fun practising. I can also see the leaf image from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set is going to get lots of use.

Blended blooms Hamburger Box -

I have a Blendabilities Class coming up really soon… keep a look out for details.

Bordering Blooms Video tutorial – Create a background pattern

So you might know I’m a bit of a night owl – my perfect life would be to stay up until 1 or 2am and sleep until 9am every day (blush). Well it’s school holidays at the moment and with Hubby up super early most mornings watching the World Cup and making the kids their breakfast, I’ve been able to stay up late, stamping and creating and then sleeeeeeep in. BLISS!!!  But the it’s all going to end really soon with the end of the World Cup and the holidays finishing up. *sigh* That is going to be a bitter pill to swallow…. if you see me with big bags under my eyes you know exactly why.

So while I’ve had all that creative energy I’ve put together another video tutorial on how to create a patterned background with the new Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer Border Stamps. These stamps are so fantastic and I know you’re going to love them as much as I do.

This card is made with the stamp set called Bordering Blooms. Really lovely crisp and elegant lines. Great for any occasion.

Bordering Blooms- Creating a Background

Stamping Tip: I’ve made the little flag with a tooth pick – the perfect size for a card and flags are totally on-trend.

I adore Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer stamps. They just tick so many boxes. Photopolymer makes:

  • perfect and accurate positioning so simple – they’re clear and you can see exactly where to put them,
  • adhering to the acrylic blocks are a dream – they’re super sticky
  • cleaning your stamps is easy – clean as you would normally and wash with soapy water if they get really inky. Yes they stay sticky after washing!
  • storage is simple – keep out of direct sunlight
  • stamped images are crisp and perfect

Border stamps are just perfect for making backgrounds. Here I’ve used the Draw the line   border stamp to make this circle background for this framed piece – perfect for home decor.

Curly Flower -

This curly flower is really sweet and a bit different. There is an excellent tutorial here on how to make them:
