My new Stamping Studio – my dream craft room

For the last 4 years I’ve been having Stampin’ Up! Classes here in the Adelaide Hills from my dinning room table in our open plan kitchen family room, while it’s been great it can be a juggle running classes in a busy family space. I’ve also had a little dream…… to have my very own craft room which is big enough to hold my classes in. My very own spot that is welcoming and fun for my classes. It’s taken a lot of plotting, organisation and planning but finally I have it. My Stamping Studio!

My Studio room has had a few names/uses in just the 14 years we’ve owned our 90 year old workman’s cottage. Originally it was our dinning room and then our lounge room (while we renovated and extended), then for the past 6 years it’s been play room for our 3 boys. The play room has been wonderful however being a walk through room the ‘mess’ factor has been a constant issue for the grown ups in the house.

Making the decision to move my craft table out of the spare bedroom (and put the toy room into the spare bedroom) was a great idea. Especially now that my boys are almost all at school. It’s also been an unexpected pleasure to have reclaimed some adult space to our house that has been totally taken over by children for the last decade. Hubby and I own the house right??!! I’d totally forgotten that. Plus I can now close the toy room door and hide away all that toy mess. :)

I hope you enjoy this tour of my new Stamping Studio. Please ask me any questions you like in the comments section. I love to chat.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

This massive beautiful white table is from Ikea and called the Norden. I actually snaffled it second hand from a Gumtree listing last week and I couldn’t believe my luck to get it half the new price and in perfect condition. This is in the 8 person configuration but I can extend it another 46cm to seat another 2 class attendees if required.

Because the table, desk and even the paint in the room is a neutral white and cream colours I NEEDED some Carolyn colour. I took my inspiration from the colours I already love in my home, Cherry Cobbler red, Sage Green, Midnight Muse blue – then I added a new love Daffodil Delight yellow. I’m a bit of a primary colour girl hehehe. So the stools and chairs had to be colourful ones and again Ikea to the rescue.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

After moving the toys out I had the fun of moving all the craft stuff in. My desk is not too changed from it’s configuration previously and I’ll do a post in the future on the storage and organisation of my tools, papers etc. I did have to shed a lot of ‘stuff’ – having had my craft room in the spare bedroom meant I could hoard a lot of junk which I’ve promised myself not to do again.

My Stampin’ Up! Punches are displayed and in handy reach on kitchen rails from Ikea which are fixed to one of our old doors from the house prior to it being renovated. My Dad made this door and although it didn’t fit into the newly renovated family room, I love that I’ve been able to repurpose it in my new favourite room of the house. This is also the same of my desk – one of Dad’s handy work.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

I found the perfect space for this fantastic banner from the last Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration and was able to display some of my favourite moments from my trip to the US last year and our tour of Stampin’ Up! Home Office and Kenab Manufacturing Facility (where Stampin’ Up! make their stamps – Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Heaven)

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

I needed some extra storage space for my business needs, so this 8 cube Ikea Expedits storage unit was perfect. I wanted a pop of colour so the yellow stationary storage boxes really did the trick. I have my photo box on the top so I can take photos of my handmade cards day and night- one of the best purchases I’ve ever made – see my previous post about this light box here. The ‘Love what you live’ is a birthday gift from my 2 dear friends Lynne & Nat long time members of my Stampin’ Up! team the Midnight Inklings. It really resinates with me on so many levels. *love* it.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

The fireplace still works but I’m not sure that I’ll have it going during classes as it would be a bit of work – and I’m usually distracted with my ladies. But it’s a lovely original feature of the room. The mantle also is a great spot to display some of my favourite things. The butterflies are all of the current Stampin’ Up! colour families.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio - After cleaning out years of junk – I mean treasures (lol)I even found this old drawing I did in high school and thought it should get a viewing. The wooden cotton reels are an op-shop find that I’ve been searching for a home for. And look at that – in exactly the colours of my new studio.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

This cupboard is nothing special.. in fact it was a save our neighbour was going to through out. But I loved the dirty green and once I took off the broken sliding doors at the top I found it so useful for display and storage.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

The coat rack is perfect for the ladies handbags and coats. The spinning craft tins from Howards’ Storage World have all the adhesives and scissors for classes at easy reach.

Carolyn's Stamping Studio -

This photo just explains how I feel about my space. Calm and happy. Of course I think it’s just the calm before the storm with my classes resuming next week (see class details and book) and I’m expecting to see my beautiful and crazy stamping friends ready to have fun and messy up my Studio. If you live in Adelaide or the Adelaide Hills in South Australia contact me today on 0401 857748 or and reserve a seat for you and a friend for my stamping classes. So I got a phone call from Stampin’ Up!…………

So, I got a phone call from Stampin’ Up! asking me to present at the 2014 Stampin’ Up! South Pacific Convention (now called Inspire.Create.Share.) in Melbourne. Eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkk!!!!!! I could have fallen over backwards!! They asked me to present at one of their Convention Demonstrator Booths with new products coming out in our 2014-15 Annual Catalogue to be released 1st of July. Of course I said a big YES!! What an honour.

So for the past few weeks I’ve been super busy getting ready for Convention making display items and thinking of ways to use brand new products never seem before here in Australia. My Demonstrator Booth display and demonstration would all be using the brand new Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer Border Stamps. I’ll be sharing with you my display cards and 3d items over the next few weeks but I wanted to share with you a few photos of this really exciting personal experience, as you my stamping friends will get a real feeling for my excitement.

Here I am in full swing at the Demonstrator Booth. Can you see the big mirror over my head? That’s so everyone watching can see exactly what I’m doing on the table, even if you’re not in the first row. I need one of these at my classes – so cool.

Carolyn Bennie

This was a big buzz – seeing my picture in the Convention Program. I know I’m meant to be all cool and nonchalant about it but who am I kidding………………………….. WHOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! :)

Carolyn Bennie

So here is a little sneak peak of my display  (I promise really good close up photos really soon – stay tuned).

Carolyn Bennie

I even managed a couple of 3d stamped items. Lots of fun to make but tricky to transport on the plane. What a relief to get them safe and sound to Melbourne.

Carolyn Bennie

Stampin’ Up! had predicted about 20 people watching the Demonstrator Booths at a time…….. it was a little bit more popular then predicted. I was wearing a microphone so I hope the ladies at the back could hear me ok. What an awesome bunch of ladies, they were all SOOO nice and went along with my silliness.

Sketched Birthday & Weekly Deals…………and Moo Moo is back!

Moo Moo is back!!! This was an AMAZING day in the Bennie Family. Moo Moo is my middle son Macauley’s very special toy that he’s had since he was a baby. One day late last year we realised that Moo Moo was gone. I mean really really gone. At first we thought he’d just fallen under the bed or was in a toy box but after a few weeks when he didn’t show up we all started to get worried. I turned the house upside down looking for Moo Moo, I would have brilliant idea in the middle of the night and be found digging through the linen cupboard (was he trapped inside a fitted sheet???) and to be honest the kids room got a super big clean out as I crawled under beds and riffled through wardrobes. But to no avail. Moo Moo was just plain gone.

Life without Moo Moo was hard. Macauley was in tears when Moo Moo missed Christmas and then our summer beach holiday – the pain of loosing this little fella was very hard for a loving 6 year old. I was a mess too…… I hated seeing my little man so sad. So after a lot of Googling I found another New Moo at a toy store in Queensland. Macauley was excited to have a ‘New’ Moo and the order was placed.

So with ‘New’ Moo now taking pride of place in Macauley’s bed we tried to move on and hoped that one day Moo Moo would come back to us – but to be honest I thought he was never going to come back, perhaps he somehow had been thrown out :( . Until………… My oldest son Finn was playing in the sand pit outside and let out a huge shout  “MOO MOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”  Yep, Moo Moo was found under a bush at the side of the sandpit. After us all dancing the happy dance,  Moo Moo was carried straight into the laundry and washed, and washed, and washed, then washed with fungal wash three times and scrubbed.

Below is a photo that shows pure happiness…….

Now Moo Moo AND New Moo take turns in Macauley’s bed at night and life is peaceful and happy for my little man again. But you might ask how did Moo Moo find his way out to the sandpit…….. see below the culprit ………

Fudge our 3 year old cavoodle.

Here she is looking very guilty watching Moo Moo in the washing machine. How do I know it was Fudge? Well that fact that the very next day I found her burying Moo Moo in a pile of the (now clean) washing AND just yesterday I could hear Moo Moo’s bell as Fudge carried him down the hall way!!! So naughty!!! While it would seem Moo Moo and New Moo have a stalker we now have to be put them up high every day for their own protection. LOL.

Now for a bit of creative inspiration. I made these two birthday cards using the Sketched Birthday stamp set for a couple of kids birthday parties my boys attended. Lots of sponge daubing and a little watercolouring made me very happy.

Which colour way do you prefer? I love this set as it’s great for adults or kids. It’s a stamp set that gets a big all round work out not just a few images. I’ve also used the fab paper stack from the Occasions Mini Catalogue -Fresh Prints designer series paper. It’s really good value with 48 sheets of 11.4 x 16.5cm paper. There are 4 of 12 double sided designs so you have lots of different designs to mix and match.

I think I like this one on the left but I’d love to hear your thoughts.

New weekly deals are out today…. just click on the picture below to take you to my online store and order. These deals will only last until next Tuesday. The Heat tool special is fantastic and I love my Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die!! Don’t miss out.

Thanks for popping by.

Happy stamping

Happy Watercolor – Love Stampin’ Up! Markers

How’s your weekend going? I’m back at my Stamping Room after my holidays last week (see photo below) and I’m having a wonderful time prepping for the Stampin’ Up! South Pacific Convention later this month and playing with all of my stamping up goodies.

I made this card using the Happy Watercolor stamp set from the Occasion Catalogue. I wanted to really have fun watercolouring with my Stampin’ Up! Markers and Blender pens. I found the best results using the Stampin’ Up! Watercolour paper – it really is THE best.

If you haven’t played with your Stampin’ Up! Markers in a while you really should – mine have been neglected for far too long.

We’re really lucky to often travel with 3 other families on camping weekends and holidays. It would be a nightmare with 10 kids and 8 adults if we didn’t have some of the most amazing organisers in our group the world has ever seen. We have an AWESOME time and it’s a dream childhood for all of our kids to spend their holidays free, riding their bikes and hanging out with their best friends.

This last week we camped in the Otway national park in Victoria Australia which was simply stunning. Here we are on a bike ride down to the light house.

Hope the sun is shining where ever you are today.

Photopolymer Stamps (completely clear stamps) now available

Stampin’ Up! searched long and hard for just the right material to be able to introduce completely clear stamping. They’ve found it! I’m excited to announce that with the release of the upcoming 2014-2015 Annual Catalogue, will have wood-mount, clear-mount AND photopolymer stamps. Our top-quality photopolymer stamps stick extremely well on our acrylic blocks, are durable, and the transparent nature of these sets makes it easier to line up your images without the need of a guide. Will you want to wait until the catalogue comes out to try this great new product? Of course not! So, beginning 1 May, Stampin’ Up! are introducing two exclusive photopolymer stamp sets: Show & Tell 1, and Show & Tell 2.

These great new photopolymer sets are designed to be used together. Even better, you can order both sets in a bundle that comes with an amazing online class-featuring tons of great project ideas using Show & Tell 1 and 2.

What happens at one of my Midnight Inklings Team Gatherings???

Have you ever wondered what happens at one of my Midnight Inkings Team gatherings?? What do those ladies talk about and do??? Well of course you’ll have to come along to one if you really want to know ‘exactly’ but I thought I’d share the photos (there is a lot!) of the last gathering.

I wanted to do something special for my beautiful team so I made a special Easter display to inspire and reward them.

This is the final set up of my show and display table.

Midnight Inklings Stampin' Up! Team gathering

I was a busy girl in my Stamping room for a few days prior to the Friday night gathering making these cute little milk bottle and goodie bags  (Stampin’ Up! style). Love my Stamping room *bliss*

These little punched out butterflies are really elegant – but great for a wedding too. Just a Whisper White cardstock punched out butterfly with a tiny Glue dot underneath.

So I might have eaten a lot of these little M&M crackle eggs before they got into the bottle……… *blush*

Midnight Inklings Stampin' Up! Team gathering I found some foam eggs on sticks at the local cheapy shop and dipped them in glue and then the Silver Glass Glitter. I used some Stampin’ Up! thread so all the colours matched – so very Stampin’ Up! … everything has to match right??

With all of the food and Cranberry punch…. ready for the girls!!!!!

Project Life & Stamping Up!

Picture this….. it’s early morning…….I’m snoozing as it’s school holidays….. My phone was beeping like crazy. My Stampin’ Up! friends are messaging me with BIG Stampin’ Up! news…… “Wake up Carolyn, you’re missing everything” one message even said!! Then I see it…. Project Life and Stampin’ Up! are collaborating with a new Project Life Scrapbooking range. *Faint*

I’ve never really been able to ‘get into’ the traditional form of scrapbooking – although I do see the attraction (I’m just too time poor and tend to overcomplicate things). But the Becky Higgins’ Project Life line has always been very inviting…. and now  its going to be available through Stampin’ Up! Yep, co-ordinating Becky Higgins products with Stampin’ Up! colours and inks.

What an awesome opportunity for Stampin’ Up! and Demonstrators. We even get to have a early play with the Project Life Stampin’ Up! products – I can’t wait. If you can’t to, why not JOIN Stampin’ Up! and my team to get your hands all inky prior to the July release scheduled to become available with the new Australian Stampin’ Up! annual catalogue 1st of July 2014.

With the Blendabilities (Stampin’ Up!’s new range of alcohol markers) and lots of new and exciting products set for release in the  next few month – now is an fantastic time to become a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and start your new business or get your hobby with a great 20% discount, all while finding a fun group of like-minded people to craft with.

My team the Midnight Inklings are a fast growing, energetic and creative group of ladies who love to socialise and share ideas and helpful advice on line and in person if possible and we’d love you to join in the fun. email me or call me on 0401857748 and I’ll send you an information pack for free.

To learn more about Project life and Stampin’ Up!’s collaboration head on over the Becky Higgins & Project Life website

More news on this as it happens. Would you be interested in having Project Life get togethers as my house? That sounds like fun!

Happy Stamping,

Happy Retirement – Ex Libris

Happy sad is how we feel about last week. My husband Chris’ boss retired after an amazing career and it was really sad to see her go. We are however happy that she is happy and excited about her new adventures.  Having been the most amazing mentor for Chris, Principal of our school and friend to all of us, the Bennie Family wishes you Alexandra all the very best.

The staff organised a lovely Retirement party on Friday evening and they asked me to make a card from them all to sign to go along with the gift. I’m not much into those HUGE cards that are often given for big groups, so a bit of creativity had to be put in place. The brief was: Purple and green, traditional and elegant…… and lots of space to write.

I couldn’t photograph the colour quite correctly but I’ve used Always Artichoke and Elegant Eggplant as the colour combo. With a touch of Sahara Sand and Very Vanilla.

I’m still loving the Spiral Flower Die and it’s versatility (remember this die is in the Occasion Catalogue that finishes June 30th – so make sure you purchase it prior to that date). I use a hot glue gun to secure the flowers to the page -that baby isn’t going anywhere!

Inside I wanted to continue the Ex Libris feel, so I inked up the outer section of the stamp and then used a baby whip to remove any additional ink – leaving a soft edge and a great place to write. I sponged the centre with a little Sahara Sand ink and used the ink splotch from the stamp  set ‘Gorgeous Grunge’ from to add to the kind of dreamy feel of it. I also added the Memories, Dream and Happiness sentiment from the ‘Loving Thoughts‘ stamp set.

I even used the back page for more room to write.

I had a big thick card with no way of getting it into a normal envelope – so what’s a girl to do? I pulled out my Envelope Punch Board and made an envelope box with a cute matching belly band with the ‘Chalk Talk’ stamp set – I use this stamp set SO much. I thought it needed a bit of wow, so I’ve heat embossed the Always Artichoke ink with clear embossing powder and added a little Glimmer Paper too.

Thanks for popping by.
